The Little Carpathian Wine Route

South-eastern slopes of the Little Carpathians are old wine-growing area. The vines were planted here already for two thousand years. Grapes planted on the sunny slopes achieve good quality and great wine made here was also present at the royal court in Bratislava and Vienna.

Little Carpathian vintners had always a good relationship with their wines, the legend says that one developed a wise wine so that he was telling stories to the grapes and the wine made of these grapes he gave to the king, who due to the wine became a wise and just ruler.

The path leads through the foothills of the Carpathians picturesque vineyard towns, such as Saint George, Pezinok and Modra. The Wine Route is characterized not only by its offer of local wines, but also history, gastronomy and various events all year round.

Just a few kilometres from Bratislava is a picturesque town Saint George, which has preserved its original appearance of a vineyard town. The city, in addition to wine cellars, has also the only monastery brewery in Slovakia.

The centre of the Little Carpathian region is Pezinok with beautiful historical town centre, wine cellars and Little Carpathian Museum. Another town, Modra, in addition to the traditional production of wine is known for majolica, you will probably like to take a nice piece home.

In addition to wine a local specialty is young wine - unripe wine people use to drink during the vintage. At this time in all the wine-growing towns and villages are festivals organized, where you can taste local specialties, whether young wine, or potato pancakes and roasted geese.

Finally, the best - tasting of white and red varieties with commentary and some small snacks.

It is recommended to combine this tour with a visit to the Red Stone Castle where there is one of the largest wine cellars in Central Europe.
